How to Make a Floating Ghost......Oooh Spooky

My little project to share with you today, is a Halloween ghostie.  I've seen these done a number of times & actually bought all of the supplies last year...but of course never made it.  Lame, I know.

So, this year I pulled out all of my Halloween decor & supplies & was resolute that I would make these babies this year!!  So, Here's my little mini-tutorial on the Floating Ghosts.

Supplies:

• Spray Starch
• Empty 2 liter soda bottle
• Floral Wire
• Styrofoam Ball
• Cheesecloth

As you can see here; I wrapped some floral wire around the neck of the bottle & stretched out to create arms.  I secured it with a little masking tape (as my floral wire was really pliable & not very stiff).  You may want to consider using a thicker, stiffer wire. 

I removed the plastic cap from the empty bottle & filled it with some pebbles to weigh it down.  I placed the styrofoam ball on the top of the bottle, and carefully draped the cheesecloth over the whole thing.



The wire I used was white, so it's hard to see in the pic, but if you look carefully you can see the "arms"

Lastly, spray the whole thing until well saturated with the spray starch.  I actually tested mine & ended up giving it a couple of coats.  The secret to getting it to stand up really well is to have enough pooled at the bottom to support it when you take it off your form when dry.  You can place out in the sun (which I did) or use a hairdryer on a low setting (so as not to blow the whole thing over).

Fancy Favor Fun

This is my prototype of some goodie boxes I am making for a friend at work.  She asked me to make some special boxes for her sister who is a hair stylist, to give to special clients.

My goal was to make something elegant and sophisticated, with a little touch of fun.  The colors for the Salon are shades of teal & silver.  I incorporated those into the box & almost squealed with delight when I found the silver scissor brads! 

I used the Fancy Favor box die from SU, ribbon from Hobby Lobby, the scissor brads are from Eyelet Outlet & all cardstock is Bazzill.  I used a small strip of crystal trim from Simplicity I had on hand to accentuate the bottom front of box, and a crystal from SU on top of the rosette.  I threw a few small travel size bottles & packets inside, as that's how they will be used (to hold styling samples). Glitter Academy Event

I had the pleasure of attending The Glitter Academy event this past Friday night in Chandler.  The event was held at the Old Spaghetti Factory at Chandler Fashion Center.  I asked my sweet friend Susan to join me, and we had a blast!

It was great to get out and socialize and meet some other crafty women.  We sat across from the girls from "Real Housemoms" who were so nice.  We had a yummy dinner, they did some games and giveaways, and we were also treated to delish desserts from "Mind Over Batter".  What an amazing evening.  Below is the stencil project I made from "Poppyseed Projects" who was a sponsor of the event.  I will definitely be looking forward to the next event.

You're Berry Sweet

I gotta get with the program here......my goal is to be posting twice a week, but it's turned out to be more like once a month :(

Ok, ok so I've been sick, busy, blah, blah, blah.  But I have actually made another creation to post here. Another of my goals (seems like a have a lot of those doesn't it)....is to make more cards to give to family & friends.  Especially Thank You cards.  Who doesn't like getting those, right?

This little "Berry Sweet" card I made as a thank you for someone I work with who is an SU customer.  Paper is from DCWV Sweet Stack, Strawberries are punch art made with heart punches, leaf punches, and the leafy vine is from the Stampin Up Bird Punch. I embossed the strawberries in my Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots folder.  The green strip is done with a Martha punch, and the little blossom and brad I had on hand.  I used SU dimensionals to pop the leaves a bit.  The sentiment is from the Simply Charmed Cricut cartridge (I embellished the lettering with a white gel pen).

Angry Birds Birthday Card

A little obsession that my kiddos got me started on last year was Angry Birds.  Since then we've moved on to Cut The Rope...but anyhoo....I've been really getting into making punch art projects.

I got the idea from a card project that a Stampin Up Demo had done last year.  Did lots of playing around with various punches before I came up with versions of the birds that I liked. 

The card was for my husband's birthday.  Poor guy, he's my guinea pig for all my little ideas I get, but he appreciates how much time & effort I put into my little crafty creations!

I made the card with a variety of punches and sizes including: heart punches, circles, star, and my handy dandy Martha Stewart fringe scissors (for the grass).  Stamp sentiment was from a $1.00 clear stamp from Michael's.  Hope you enjoy....wahoo!!

Dad's Day Beer Mug Card

Well I better get snappy with posting some of the projects I've made lately.  Here is the card that I made last week (with some help from my 3 year old of course)!  My hubs like a cold frosty one now & then, so I thought ....what the heck.

I found a general mug pattern on the internet (could be for coffee mug too) & used a Sand colored cardstock from Hobby Lobby, then layered a gold vellum over to look more like a liquid amberish type color.  I chalked the edges & added just a very narrow strip of black cardstock to the bottom to add a bit of dimension and shadow.  The "head" of the beer was made with scalloped circle punches layered & adhered with Stampin Dimensionals.  I then added a few extra 1 inch circle punches & sort of smeared them with Snow Writer to give them a foam type texture.  The scalloped circles were also outlined with Stickles.

I kinda jazzed up the pic with some fun bubbly effects with Picsart on my smartphone.

Welcome Baby Girl Card

Obviously I just started this blog & already I'm slacking on mu posts!  LOL  Oh well, life and my full-time job totally get in the way of all of the cool stuff & ideas I WANT to do.  I just downloaded some pics and found several other projects that I wanted to post.  Here is a card I made for my baby niece's arrival last year.  Can't believe it but she's about to turn "1".  So, perfect time as any to post this I guess.... Made using Cuttlebug embossing folder, Melissa Frances "Onesie" stamps, Recollections pennant stickers from Michael's, and some misc ribbon & mini flowers from my stash.

Hoppy Easter!

Well, here we go......

Ok, ok.....so I have been promising myself for the past couple of years that I would do some things for myself. What I mean when I say "for myself", is things that inspire me, and give me stress relief, and challenge me to make and accomplish some goals.

Some of those goals are (yes, I'm gonna say them out loud):

1. Start a blog
2. Scrap, papercraft, make cards, stamp, etc on a regular basis (not just sometimes, but to make the time)
3. Get some of my aforementioned projects published in a magazine, and on blogs.

So, now that it's April....guess I better get started on some of these New Year's Resolutions!! LOL

The altered art project above I made for my Mom for Mother's Day. Her grandkids all call her "Zaza" (long story), so I incoporated that into this project. The project consists of a frame, fabric, tulle, bird & nest, chipboard letters,flowers, jewels, and misc supplies most of which are from Hobby Lobby (LOVE that place).
